The Ballad of the Snail God

Author’s sketch, inspired by a sculpture unearthed at the Ġgantija megalithic temple complex, Gozo

His home on his back
He travels slow
From Cape Maclear
     To Karakol

A parasite
He paid his way
Through the Cuilfail Tunnel
     And far away

The Lord of the Snails
        He leaves his trail:
The Milky Way
O’er Kilifi Bay
