The Contest

One-eyed Odin sat down on his throne
and bid the games begin,
to see who was the strongest God
at the hall of Valhalla within.
So Thor did send his thunder
and Loki his sly game,
as Odin watched the games unfold
and kept the ruling tame.
There had been grumblings for
a while that another with a chance,
would take his throne from under him
so watched the ladies dance.
The beer did pour and the fighting
wavered as Loki stood without another.
Then seeing his chance, the one eyed
God expelled his exhausted brother.
“Go play your games elsewhere,” Odin said,
and from tired Loki came no reply,
as Odin, much relaxed reclaimed his throne,
and drank his goblet dry.
