Into the Woods

They told me not to go into the forest
Told me it was dangerous and wild
I went anyway, working myself
Deep into the overshadowed woods
The birds were silent, there was no
Rustling of animals in the underbrush
The wind whispered secrets spoken
In shadow, sung in the song of leaves,
I wandered deeper, beyond borders
Spirits dancing at the edge of my vision
As the wind ceased whispering and
Filled with music and voices and dreams
Later they would say I was lost,
Never to be found,
But they lied
I had been found
And chose
To stay

[Morgan Daimler has been fascinated by poetry since they were young and has found a lot of beauty in using that format to express thoughts that can’t be neatly contained in prose. Mainly a writer of non-fiction, Morgan has also had poetry published previously in magazines and anthologies and has written a high fantasy novel and urban fantasy series. The numinous, fairies, and magic are common themes across their work.]
