Athena’s Owl

into marble carved
or brass molded
eyes wide watching all
geometries and angel-clouds
scudding across the darkening sky
spangled cold but expanding
always knowing what was what is
and what will come sweeping over
the curved wall of the horizon
the moment she spreads her wings
