Title: A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience
Publisher/Author: Stephanie Burgis
Pages: 80pp
Margaret Dunhaven just wants to be left alone to pursue her academic studies. Lord Riven of Shadowcroft Manor just wants to be left alone to sleep, skulk in the darkness, and guard his family’s ancient treasure. Unfortunately for both, nefarious parties have their greedy eyes on Margaret’s sizable inheritance and Lord Riven’s treasure. Thus the two find themselves reluctantly wed — and when they discover the lies that drove them together, Margaret and Lord Riven join forces to save their legacies and their future … a partnership that they may want to never end ….
Stephanie Burgis is one of my favorite authors. When I discovered that she was publishing a romantasy re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast, I immediately added it to my Wish List, bought it as soon as I could, then read it the moment it arrived at my front door.
A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience is an absolute delight. It is romantic, righteously angry, and gratifyingly uplifting. Margaret discovers in Lord Riven the true partner she never knew she needed; someone she can rely upon and who respects her intelligence and independence. Lord Riven discovers a woman who is as curious, courageous, and loyal as him; someone who will drag him out of his self-imposed isolation to once again experience the world.
And, of course, the villains get their just desserts.
I loved A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience, and I was thrilled when I learned that the sequel (A Honeymoon of Grave Consequence) will be out at the end of September. Highly recommended to fans of Burgis’ other books, as well as fans of Lady Avely’s Guide to Truth and Magic by Rosalie Oaks, Wormwood Abbey by Christina Baehr, the Thrill of the Hunt series by Helen Harper, Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons) by Quinby Olson, and The Dragons of Mayfair series by EB Wheeler.
